Transgender prisoner resources
The trans community faces higher rates of incarceration than the general population, often for non-violent theft, drug offenses, and sex work. Once imprisoned, trans people face enormous challenges, including higher rates of assault and sexual assault, difficulties with access to health services, and sometimes questions about which gender specific facility is appropriate. Policies and procedures vary significantly by state and country, and federal and military prisons often have differing policies as well. Below are some resources for trans prisoners and their friends and families.
