transkids.us offline, intersex activists respond |
|
Intersex activists have alerted me that within days of linking to Alice Dreger’s “partial history” of Denise Tree, the transkids.us hoax site has gone offline. This may be a temporary situation, but intersex activists are monitoring this development closely.
The transkids.us site went up in December 2004, claiming to represent “homosexual transsexuals,” a controversial term promulgated as part of a two-type taxonomy of transsexual people based on sexual behavior. The site was immediately condemned as a hoax by trans activists, but researchers associated with Northwestern University near Chicago and the CAMH Clarke Institute in Toronto praised the site and even published with the author, Denise Tree (aka Kiira Triea). According to the people who use the term “homosexual transsexual,” the term does not apply to “genetic females.” Tree claims to be a genetic female with progestin-induced virilization, but she has also claimed to be a male-to-female “transkid.”
