transkids.us IP analysis, pre-2005

Kiira Triea, aka Denise Tree, has published all the IP addresses for visitors to the transkids.us hoax site.

For the first step in the analysis of the contributors, I have limited this to visits prior to the site's publication. Two of the key participants, Denise Tree and Jenn Ross, have been identified by name. Another contributor has asked to remain anonymous.

Notes:

These five IPs represent 85% of all visits to transkids.us in 2003 and 2004:

• 10.1.0.2 (IANA IP used by site owner)
• 192.168.1.4 (IANA IP used by site owner)

• 24.61.25.4 Boston-area Comcast IP

• 69.76.45.207 Southeastern Wisconsin area RoadRunner IP

• 206.168.11.138 Boulder-area Indra's IP

Transkids.us was a successful enough hoax to be published as legitimate in textbooks and peer-reviewed journals by gullible academics like Alice Dreger, J. Michael Bailey, and Simon LeVay who didn’t bother to do any independent confirmation. Denise Tree said things these “scholars” wanted to hear, and sadly, there’s really no consequence for this sort of substandard fact-checking these days.
