Reykja K. Sigurdsson

Is a name used by someone who claimed to be Icelandic who was actively posting on USENET in 1992 and 1993. They had a Hewlett-Packard email account and claimed to be a 40-year old divorced woman living in Colorado Springs (near Manitou Springs) and also Fort Collins, Colorado. She claimed a fascination with Iceland (especially Akureyri, Iceland) and learing the rudiments of foreign languages. This person claimed to have worked for a few months as a Kirby Vacuum salesperson. She was considering a move to Portland, Oregon and knew people in Temple City, California and was formerly from Santa Cruz, California.

considering a move to Portland, Oregon... I am 40 (non-midlife crisis), physically attractive (as if that really matters), employed in the computer field, more spiritual than religious, pro-life, fascinated by true crime and criminology issues (can be found on alt.true-crime usually) and desperate to get out of this cold part of the country. I am far from yuppie slime but I try to keep ahead of the wolves. Like country music, books, interesting conversation and non-materialism. I am not interested in obsessively ambitious people. There is more to life than acquisition.

I have not heard about any direct connection between Amway and the JBS. I can see where there are philosophical similarities though. Capitalism Uber Alles. Entrepreneur as cultural hero. I have noticed some cultic aspects amongst several of these multi-level marketing things. They want to keep people at a fever pitch constantly. They use "motivational meetings" to accomplish that, not to mention a whole gaggle of "new friends" who call and visit incessantly. For a few months I worked for the Kirby Vacuum place as a salesperson. They likewise use mental manipulation to keep the sales persons "motivated." They had a sales meeting every morning, during which they would chant "money is a friend of mine -- I can make it any time!" and would sing songs peculiar to that particular company. The fact that I got fired for refusing to participate is a badge of honor in my opinion! The John Birch Society? Well, no, I think not. Amway, Mary Kay, Kirby, Mellaleuca, etc. seem to have more in common with the Moonies!! rks

I have mixed feelings about the name change issue. I did change mine when I got married. It felt foreign to me. It never felt quite "right" somehow since his name carried his family history and it had nothing to do with mine. In my own case, I have a very ethnic name and his last name was not of the same nationality. It made the rest of my name sound stupid. :-) Well, at least rather odd. In this case, my first name which is an international port city in Iceland was met by his last name which is a county in Ireland. All in all, it was very strange. The real issue though is how you feel about yourself when using someone else's name. I felt like an impostor.Would you perhaps be willing to compromise with a hyphenated name? You are somewhat in a bind since you DID make an agreement with him. guden heffni.. -reykjavik

Thank you for this information! There is also a little place on Colorado Ave -- near Manitou Springs -- very close to my residence which looks very appealing from the outside. It is like something one would expect to see in Santa Cruz or some other 'artsy' community. It is in an old house -- very quaint --. I am looking forward to checking it out. Let me know anything you might happen to find in the area that seems worthwhile (in all regards). I'm lost also! Tried to send this to your e'mail account and it bounced back. ;-( -rks

Hi... Now that I have a new e-mail address, I would like to make some new contacts. I would like to talk to men, 30+, who don't mind an older woman. I would like to make contact with someone who is interested in exploring the deeper things of life -- everything from the nature of the universe to the meaning of it. I am 40, average-looking, like reading and quiet activities. I do not drink or use drugs. I like to think of myself as more cerebral than physical. The man who will catch my attention is one who has developed internally beyond the superficial standards of beauty. He wants someone who is more intellectual than the average person. He is self-assured enough to realize that compassion and sharing are more important than hypersensitive self- protection. He is looking for someone to be his best-friend/soulmate. He is internally developed enough to know that honor and integrity are more important than image. He likes himself enough to have grown beyond self-centeredness. He likes himself enough to share himself with others. The man who will capture my heart will be socially conscious, concerned about the world around him and involved in the world around him. He will know that with freedom comes responsibility. (I don't mind libertarians but if you have not grown enough to know that the world doesn't revolve around you and economics will not solve all the world's problems, forget it.) I am also looking for someone who has enough respect for himself and others to be *Very* particular about his sexual partners. I will not accept promiscuity. There is not a peice of ass in this world worth dying for. Most of all, I would like to meet someone who enjoys simple things -- eating pizza in front of the TV, reading, walking in nature, driving aimlessly and renting movies. I do not like bars, loud places or crowded environments. Hopefully, you will have the same attitude. Please, vegetarians, work-out fanatics, militant anti-smokers, "white wine" types, born-again Christians, you needn't reply. You would not like me. Please reply to rks@teal.csn.org. (The address above is my work address and it will be very difficult for me to reply from here. This account will be dead as of Tuesday morning.) I look forward to hearing from you. thanks --- -rks

That is absolutely right! Bo Gritz has a history of association with various racist organizations. In fact, he has made appearances at the LaPorte Church of Christ in Colorado where Identity preacher, Pete Peters, is notoriously racist. There is also some evidence that this same church is where David Lane and Bruce Pierce hung out the night before killing Alan Berg. It is well-known that other members of The Order attended there regularly. Bo Gritz is one scary dude! When he talks about nonChristian religions, he is not just talking about paganism, Judaism or Islam! He is talking about Protestants, Catholics and Methodists as well. One of the basic tenets of Identity is that they (read:white people) are the lost tribes of Israel and the true holders of the Covenant of Abraham! All other so-called Christians are not 'true' Christians in their belief. War hero? Even if Gritz didn't have such creepy connections, the last thing this country needs is a 'war hero'! What we need is a person of compassion. If anyone is interested in more information on the associations of Bo Gritz, Jack Mohr or any of these figures, please contact me at 3107 W. Colorado Ave #172, Colorado Springs, CO 80904. (I am a hate group investigator with the Religious Movement Resource Center and have a great deal of documentation on these folks.) Subject: Re: Me? Clueless? Naaah :)

You asked one question which is of great interest to me. What makes me a female? Aside from the biologically obvious things, I can't quite define that myself. In large part, I gender identity is cultural. Are we really different, men and women, without acculturation? I have never had any interest in wearing make-up, dresses or any of the other things usually attributed to females? I never cared about dolls, home-making, getting ga-ga over boys in school, wearing lingerie for boyfriends, wearing heels, nurturing babies (I don't think they are 'cute'. I think they are bundles of unbridled need -- and it makes me want to run as fast as my stubby-little legs will carry me!) or many of the things that most people think of when they think "female", "woman" or "girl". I always resented the fact that I was expected to paint myself, shave myself, diet myself half way to anorexia, speak in a soft tone, learn to cook (I HATE cooking), serve a man, on and bloody on. Why in the name of the Goddess should I want to spend all of my time being a mannequin -- just so that MAYBE someday, some man will CHOOSE me and I will live happily ever after? Bullshit! I don't understand why people shouldn't wear the clothing that makes them most comfortable. If a man wants to wear a skirt -- WEAR A SKIRT!! They are bloody comfortable and it makes total sense to me. People should be free to adorn themselves as they choose. And if it is not accepted by the brainwashed masses, well, so be it. As for me, many would say that I am 'cross-gendered'. Mu typical mode of dress is loose jeans, boots, large sweaters or shirts. I only wear one earring. I don't wear make-up. My hair is not 'styled'. (It is actually rather short with long strands of varying lengths just kind of randomly 'left there'. And, no, I have never seen it elsewhere. I thought of it one day, took a pair of scissors and did it.) I do not wear a bra but I do have a pierced nipple. I also have pierced labia. Because I want it. For no other reason. So, am I transgender? Perhaps. I prefer to think that I am just Gisle. Whoever the hell she is today. And it just irritates me to no end that we have all of these boundaries -- all of these limits -- that have been determined by some cultural standard from thousands of years ago (or however long we have 'graced' the planet). This sort of stuff shouldn't even be an issue! Ghu! I certainly hope that we evolve as a species (eventually) to an extent where all of these definitions become irrelevant. freaking freely... //gisle
