The Anne Who Would Be Queen: 1997 Adverse Action Reports

Below is selected text and a scan of the adverse action reports outlining the 31 March 1997 incident which led anesthesiologist Anne Lawrence to resign from Swedish Health Services in Seattle.

The State of Washington Department of Health initiated an investigation through their Health Professions Quality Assurance Commission as case number 97-05-0042MD.

Both reports were submitted on 19 May 1997 and contain the same handwritten text at item 31:

Description of the acts or omissions or other reasons for the action taken, and if known and applicable, the reasons for surrender of clinical privileges

An incident involving the physician’s professional conduct occurred which led to her resignation from the medical staff of Swedish Medical Center. The incident involved an examination of a patient by the physician without the patient’s consent.
